In general, a Prismata game goes through the following cycle, ending once one player's units are destroyed:
- Player's turn
- Player may attack, initiating a damage or defense phase
- Opponent's turn
- Opponent may attack, initiating a damage or defense phase
During a turn, a player can purchase units or trigger click abilities, usually revolving around one or both of these two overall goals:
- Keeping his or her defense above the opponent's attack value, limiting how many units are permanently damaged or destroyed.
- Raising his or her attack value up to or above the opponent's defense in order to inflict maximum damage to opponent units.
