Strategy
Steelsplitters are a versatile attack/defense unit that can be used either to build some pressure or defend with. This flexibility comes with the downside that, short of other defenses, your Steelsplitters may be locked into defending against an increasing amount of pressure.
Fortunately, Walls are available and can free up your Steelsplitters to attack. The first player to build a Blastforge can build a Steelsplitter to attack with, following with a Wall to block any initial damage.
Steelsplitters are practically equivalent to Walls in terms of absorption, with the difference that Walls have Prompt, while Steelsplitter can attack. When deciding whether to build one or the other, consider the value of losing an Engineer in the early game, versus putting your own pressure on your opponent and disrupting his early game plans.
Steelsplitters work very well with certain other units. Odin produces four of them and can sacrifice them for attack power, and Steelforges can efficiently convert your Drones into Steelsplitters.
