An Animus
Animus is a Colorless unit and part of the basic set. It produces two Red resources per turn.

The Animus synthesizes a resource called Replicase, more commonly referred to as “red.” If the red produced by the Animus is not used during your turn, it decays and is not stored. In most cases, you do not want to buy an Animus and fail to take advantage of the red resource, since that is inefficient play. It is far better to buy more Drones or another resource type until your economy can support using the available red resource each turn.
Animus are unique in that they are the most expensive basic resource building, yet they produce two Red, as opposed to the only 1 resource that Conduits and Blastforges produce. Sets that feature red units that only cost one red resource allows you to pump two of them out each turn. Tarsiers and Rhinos are Basic unit examples.
Most high level red units require at least two Animus to produce. This transitions very well into building an army of Tarsiers and a defense of Rhinos due to the high quantity of red resources produced.
